179D Federal Energy Tax Deductions EXTENDED
The amount of the 179D Federal Energy Tax Deduction could be up to $1.80 per square foot. Each of the following can qualify for 1/3 of the deduction (60¢ per square foot). Most buildings qualify for one of the three portions of the deduction.
- Building envelope
- HVAC and SHW systems
- Lighting
The following products qualify:
- Commercial buildings (any size)
- Apartments, four or more stories
- Commercial energy renovations
- Must reduce total annual energy and power costs with respect to the interior lighting systems, heating, cooling, ventilation, and hot water systems by 50%, but partial deductions allowed for partial reduction
- Energy simulation to justify the deduction
- Inspection and testing by qualified engineer or contractor registered in the jurisdiction
- Projects must be completed after December 31, 2005 and before January 1, 2013
