ComfortWise Frequently Asked Questions

What is ComfortWise?

ComfortWise homes use at least 30% less energy for space heating and cooling than the same home would if it were built simply to meet the National Model Energy Code. ConSol, an energy consulting firm, provides the HVAC layout and design as well as full energy code and lender documentation. Spectrally selective glass (like LoE2) and tight ducts are specified to increase energy efficiency. On-site third party inspections and diagnostic testing assure quality and homeowner comfort. Energy efficient mortgages can expand your market and increase profitability. Marketing support can help to distinguish your product and augment your marketing efforts. Satisfied buyers are more likely to recommend your homes to their friends, further expanding the market.

What does ComfortWise cost?

Very little considering that the buyer can use the energy savings to purchase additional upgrades. ComfortWise will also provide marketing support (advertising and training) that will help bring more buyers, AND ComfortWise homes are less likely to have costly callbacks or generate litigation based on construction defects.

What do we get besides the specifications, inspections and documentation?

Our field staff assists your superintendent in getting a better quality job from window, insulation and HVAC contractors. ComfortWise homebuilders get valuable marketing and sales support. ComfortWise advertising tells homebuyers about the advantages of ComfortWise and lists ComfortWise communities and locations. Point-of-sale brochures and Internet access also promote ComfortWise builders. Sales training will help agents sell the ComfortWise benefits, and ConSol staff will assist with press releases and grand openings as needed.

Why do we need ComfortWise? Our community is selling like hotcakes!

You may be selling like hotcakes today, but the minute your competition comes up with a better hotcake, your prospects will be at their homes. ComfortWise is the product that can distinguish you from your competition. And buyers do appreciate the fact that you are making a positive impact on the environment by thinking globally and acting locally.

Our community is already under construction. Can we become ComfortWise anyway?

Absolutely, in your next phase. And it may be that the only changes you need to make are your windows and ducts.

Will this require training for our contractors?

Probably not for the window and insulation trades, but maybe for ductwork. This can be provided by ConSol on an as-needed basis. However, many HVAC contractors may already participate in high-performance duct programs often sponsored by local utility companies. But either way, trades will be able to easily transition to building ComfortWise homes.
